We seem to be programmed to see beauty only in the aesthetic values of a scene. I had dinner with a few friends and family last night and the group was as diverse as could be. The restaurant however, was a Muslim Pakistani place with a big screen TV showing the evening prayer time in Mecca via live satellite feed of all things! We were invited there by a mutual friend couple who had no clue themselves that this is the holy fasting month of Ramadan, on top of that they were late showing up at the gathering. Leaving the guests some of whom knew each other and some totally new to have to deal with the apparent question on everyone's mind "what the heck are we doing here listening to this strange Muslim chants over loud speakers of this restaurant with the big screen TV showing images of Muslim prayers here in the heart of Texas?" I could sense the unease, and knew that there was not a thing I could do except be compassionately creating energies of peace and serenity. Where was the beauty in this picture? How were we to get to know one another without the host? To top all this, we had a few little kids of 3 to 10 years in age who were getting impatient because there was no food in front of them. This being just at the time when the regular Muslim customers were praying in the next banquet room and were not quite ready to break the days fast to start eating yet. I knew also that the restaurant owner too along with all his family present were on the fast and had not eaten yet which did not help matters any. The look on some of the guests at our table was one of shock, bewilderment, and not knowing just how to react to this in your face Islamic event in their home town of Texas culture! The night ended with almost all of us getting in on a nice talk about Quantum effects of energies and the science of kinesiology! And the kids, they ended up playing around in the restaurant at the end(by then we were the only customers left). The beauty for me was that not the Christian, nor the Muslim, nor the Buddhist or the Agnostic at our table could have seen this lesson coming and would have to take something with them despite their beliefs. For a shaman these are dances with the TAO! Oh my love how intricate is the weave!
I am really trying to keep my usual positive and hopeful attitude towards our humanity and mankind in general, but recent events have brought the old anger back in me which is really frustration and anxiety about Politicians and the money mongers of the world about which I can take no real action of any significance. I see hunger and destitude in the masses of this U.S. of A, the richest country on earth, I see the very weak and the elderly, the homeless and the hard working class suffer while the political will of some nuts is runnning amock! God help me to accept what I can change and that over which I have no control, and please God give me the wisdom to know the difference. It is nothing new, just different land, different time in the history of the ignorant man and the greed of the fools!
